Understanding your options
Breast reconstruction rebuilds the breast shape after mastectomy. It can use an implant, your own tissue (a flap from the abdomen, back, or thigh, such as a DIEP flap), or both. It may be done at the same time as mastectomy (immediate) or later (delayed), depending on cancer treatment such as radiotherapy.

Cost of Breast Reconstruction in India
Typical price range in India
₹1 – 8 lakh per breast (about US$1,100 – 9,100)
Implant reconstruction about ₹1 – 2.5 lakh; flap reconstruction such as DIEP about ₹3 – 8 lakh or more. Mastectomy and later stages are priced separately.

An individual estimate needs a defined plan and provider review. Ask for a written breakdown rather than comparing package names alone.
- Implant or flap technique, with flaps costing more
- Operating time, ICU, and hospital stay
- Later stages such as nipple reconstruction or symmetry surgery
Confirm what is included, quotation validity, possible additional charges, and cancellation terms. Allow separately for accommodation, travel, local transfers, coordination fees, and care after returning home.
Recovery and follow-up planning
Implant reconstruction usually needs a shorter stay than flap surgery, which may need about a week in hospital and several weeks of recovery. Reconstruction often involves more than one stage, so plan follow-up visits or local care.
Common questions
It helps to discuss reconstruction before surgery, but it can also be done months or years later.
Reconstruction does not usually prevent cancer follow-up. Your cancer team will advise on monitoring.
