Understanding your options
Joint replacement (arthroplasty) replaces a worn or damaged joint with artificial components to relieve pain and restore movement, most often for arthritis. Knees and hips are the most common, followed by shoulders. Options include total or partial replacement, conventional or robotic-assisted surgery, and revision surgery when an earlier replacement has worn or failed.

- Which implant and technique are proposed, and why for my joint?
- How long will I need in India for surgery and early physiotherapy?
Cost of Joint Replacement Surgery in India
An individual estimate needs a defined plan and provider review. Ask for a written breakdown rather than comparing package names alone.
- Which joint, and one side or both
- Implant type and robotic or conventional technique
- Hospital stay, room category, and physiotherapy
Confirm what is included, quotation validity, possible additional charges, and cancellation terms. Allow separately for accommodation, travel, local transfers, coordination fees, and care after returning home.
Recovery and follow-up planning
Most patients walk with support within a day or two of knee or hip replacement and stay in hospital for 3 to 5 days. Plan around 2 to 3 weeks in India for wound checks and physiotherapy before flying, and arrange continued physiotherapy at home.
Common questions
Most modern knee and hip replacements last 15 to 20 years or more, depending on activity, weight, and implant.
Sometimes, either in one operation or a few days apart. The surgeon decides based on your health and fitness.
Usually around 2 to 3 weeks after knee or hip replacement, once the surgeon has reviewed the wound and your mobility. Ask about blood clot prevention for the flight.
