Understanding your options

Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A, formerly PGS) checks embryos for an abnormal number of chromosomes before transfer. A few cells are taken from each embryo at the blastocyst stage and the embryos are frozen while results are awaited. It may reduce the number of unsuccessful transfers for some patients, but it does not fix embryos and has not been shown to increase the overall chance of a baby for most people. UK regulators rate it as an add-on with limited evidence. In India, sex selection is illegal and PGT cannot be used to choose a baby's sex.

Questions for your consultation

  • What do you expect PGT-A to change in my case, given my age and history?
  • How are mosaic or inconclusive embryos reported and handled?
  • What is the cost per embryo tested, including biopsy and freezing?

Cost of PGT-A Embryo Testing in India

An individual estimate needs a defined plan and provider review. Ask for a written breakdown rather than comparing package names alone.

  • Number of embryos tested, usually charged per embryo
  • Embryo biopsy, freezing, and a frozen embryo transfer
  • Laboratory used and turnaround time

Confirm what is included, quotation validity, possible additional charges, and cancellation terms. Allow separately for accommodation, travel, local transfers, coordination fees, and care after returning home.

Recovery and follow-up planning

Testing adds no physical recovery, but it means a frozen embryo transfer in a later cycle. Plan around 2 to 3 weeks in India for the IVF cycle, then another short stay for the transfer, or ask whether the transfer can be timed for a second trip.

Common questions

For most patients the evidence does not show a higher overall live birth rate. It may reduce the time to pregnancy or the number of failed transfers for some.

It can detect sex chromosomes, but using this to select sex is illegal in India.
